Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch had just enough fuel and just enough luck to score the victory in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Busch and the crew of his No. 8 McLaren Custom Grills Chevrolet Camaro gambled on not pitting for fuel late in the race, which included two Overtime restarts. Racing in third place on the race’s final lap, Busch was able to maneuver around the crashing cars that had been in first and second. Once clear of the crash, Busch cruised beneath the caution and checkered flags that brought the wild Talladega race to its conclusion. It was Busch’s second win of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series® season, the 62nd of his career, and his first at Talladega since 2008.
